What is Zika Virus?

 Zika belongs to the virus family, a well-known term of virus caused due to mosquito bites. It is caused by the bite of Aedes mosquito. This is the same mosquito which carries dengue, chikungunya and Yellow fever virus.  It has often common symptoms to mild dengue ie. fever, red eyes, skin rashes, muscle & joints pain and headache. It is most dangerous to pregnant women. This can damage or harm the fetus and other organs of the body.

How does it start spreading?

 It was first diagnosed and identified in Uganda in 1947. It is the virus comes from the Zika forest of Africa. It did not spread outside Africa until 2007, then it spread over South Pacific when a person traveled from Africa to America.

How can Zika Virus be detected?

Diagnosis and tests: – it can be detected in blood, urine, semen, and saliva of an infected person.

What are the symptoms of Zika Virus?

 The main symptoms of Zika Virus are almost common to the mild dengue. These symptoms include fever, red eyes, skin rashes, joint pain, etc. The symptoms may appear after 3 to 14 days of a mosquito bite. And it can last between few days to weeks. If you are traveling to Zika spread countries and any of the above symptoms persist, make an urgent call to doctor and make a test for it.

How can Zika Virus be transferred?

 Zika virus is transferred from one infected person to another through any medium like sexual intercourse, blood transfusion. It is transferred to babies from mother easily while pregnant or during the delivery time. This virus has once attacked your body, will last up to minimum six months but its symptoms persist for a week or two only.

Is Zika Similar to Other Mosquito-Borne Illnesses, Such as Dengue Fever, Chikungunya?

All the above said diseases are caused by the same mosquito named Aedes. These all are kind of flu which can transmit from one infected person to another very easily. They have almost common symptoms from mild to severe. And these symptoms may last from a few days to a few weeks.

How to prevent and cure Zika Virus?

 The preventive measures you may take for Zika virus is to prevent yourself from mosquito by using some good mosquito repellent. Wearing full sleeves and long pants are the best option to prevent from Zika. Zika mosquitoes are more active in the daytime and often found indoors. To prevent from these we need to take care even in our own homes indoors and outdoors. But you need to take care and prevent yourself all day long from these mosquitoes. These mosquitoes breed near to fresh water rather than dirty and smelly one. Fresh water pondering like in tires, buckets, flowerpots, and planters etc. is a good source for Aedes mosquitoes breeding. We need to prevent such pondering and if we needed to cover that water all-around.
